Despite your efforts and more than 3,000 phone
calls and e-mails to Congress, yesterday the Medicare
Physician Fairness Act of 2009 (S. 1776) failed to
garner the 60 votes required to send it for a full
U.S. Senate vote. Thirteen Democrats joined all 40
Republicans in voting against this legislation.
Following the vote, Senate Majority Leader Harry
Reid (D-NV) pledged to take the SGR up again after the
vote on the full health care reform bill now working its
way through Congress.
We are disappointed, but we are not giving up.
We will continue to work actively and aggressively to
repeal the SGR and enact payment reforms that support
the value of primary care.
